Proper home care requires daily use of SOLAROIL™ Nail & Cuticle Care to maintain flexibility in the colour coating and keep nails and surrounding skin moisturised. Will SHELLAC™ Nail Colour last longer than 14 days?
Yes. However, the base of the nail will show nail growth after 14 days. Removal can also take slightly longer after 14 days, as adhesion will increase the longer SHELLAC™ Nail Colour is worn. How can I remove SHELLAC?
We encourage you to book in to remove your SHELLAC as incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails (we remove SHELLAC using a professional remover). We also retail home kits if you choose to remove yourself either in salon or on our online shop. What’s the difference between SHELLAC and Gel Polish?
Shellac is referred to as a Power Polish. This is because it is very much like a Gel Polish but has more nail polish qualities (for example buffing the nail is not a requirement for Shellac unlike most other gel polishes). We know you will absolutely LOVE your nails while you are wearing Shellac and we expect your nails to last flawlessly for at least 14 days as long as you give them a little care and attention during that time.
We say Shellac is pretty indestructible with normal wear and tear, which means you have to partner with us by adding a little protection to your nails by wearing gloves if doing tough jobs like household cleaning and gardening, hobbies that are rough on your hands or using harsh chemical products. Doing these things without protection can affect your Shellac service.
If something you have done has caused a chip or lifted an edge of your Shellac, please do not pick or pull at the area as this will cause any damage to increase. Please contact us, so that we can assess the nail and decide if a repair is necessary. Please note that repairs may be chargeable.
If you do happen to cause some damage to the Shellac coating and see any of the following signs, we hope you find the advice below helpful:
If you are on holiday please be careful when using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain DEET which can cause major damage to the Shellac colour coat. Ideally avoid the nails completely or ensure to wash hands thoroughly after application. Some of the more delicate Shellac colours can fade somewhat on contact with chlorinated water followed by excessive sun (remember that chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action). Dry your hands and nails after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading.
Please use CND Solar Oil at least twice a day (ideally at night before going to bed). We recommend CND Solar Oil which we retail in-salon from £2.99 and which is especially made to be used with CND Shellac. Regularly using this will substantially prolong the life of your Shellac and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturised and flexible.
If you wish to temporarily change the colour of your nails whilst wearing Shellac you can use standard nail polish over the Shellac but please be sure to use an Acetone Free Remover when removing any nail polish.
Relative to your lifestyle and activity level, your Shellac will need fortnightly or three-weekly maintenance as there will be obvious re-growth. At this point we can either Soak Off and reapply Shellac to your nails or we can remove the Shellac completely which takes c15 minutes.
If you do decide you want to remove your Shellac, please contact us and let us do it safely for you in Salon. Incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails. We remove Shellac using a professional remover! We also retail home kits should you choose to remove yourself.
